About Mr. Renschler

This is my 14th year teaching at Iowa Elementary, and my 24th year of teaching in all. I teach all the math classes for 5th grade. My wife, Christina, is also a teacher. We have three kids and a dog. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking, watching baseball, taking naps, and reading.
I am passionate about the learning of my students and I take my job seriously. I put a lot of effort into the education of my students because I believe they are worth my best effort. In return, I expect my students to put effort into their learning because I know they are capable.

Why am I a teacher?
Well, it certainly isn't because my goal in life was to become a millionaire.
Over the years, my purpose for teaching has evolved. When I was a fresh-out-of-college newbie, I would have said that I wanted to help students learn a certain subject. While that is still true after 20+ years, I would say that I have a broader sense of the purpose of education. I teach because I believe education makes people better. Educated people are:
- Happier
- More fulfilled in their work
- Make more money
- Live longer!
- Contribute to the resources of their community
- Make better life decisions
- Less likely to be in debt as an adult
I will be the first to admit that not all education happens in school. I will also admit that not all students need, or should, go to college. But, life can be a harsh, merciless teacher. I believe that schools make our community, state, and country better. I believe that we are blessed to live in a country that believes in education and is willing to fund education for every child. I am proud to be a part of this process.
